Hand-forged hammer poll tomahawk - poll axe. This is a brand new, original, historically influenced, hand-made tomahawk that I forged in my blacksmith shop, The North River Forge. I specialize in hand-forged reproductions of the 18th and 19th centuries. They have an authenticity rarely found in other maker's work. Each piece is unique. Dimensions: Head overall 7 1/2" - Cutting edge 2 7/8" wide. Steel: 1018 head with a piece of 1095 fire welded for the cutting edge. Traditional 18th century blacksmithing methods. Haft: White oak, 18 1/4" long Finish: Aged finish. Period correct. Special Features: Filework. Decorated haft with a leather wrap and twelve iron tacks. Leather sheath decorations include an antler piece , trade beads, copper cones and a deer hide fringe. This custom-tomahawk is stamped with my makers mark NR. Hand-made in the traditions of long ago. It is a reminder of an era past. A very nice tomahawk that will take and keep a good edge. It has never been carried or used. Functional as well as beautiful. A classic 18th. century design.
