Here is a small sample of the many hand-forged custom-tomahawks and trade-axes that I made over the years at The North River Forge.


#T73 Spike Tomahawk. Head is 9 5/8" high with a 2 7/8" cutting edge. 18 3/4" long white oak haft decorated with a partial leather wrap, line carvings and iron tacks.

#T69 Arrow Head Spike Warhawk. Head is 8 1/2" overall with a 2 3/4" cutting edge. Antiqued hickory haft is 18" long and is decorated with a partial rawhide wrap and iron tacks. File work on the front and side of the blade. Leather sheath decorated with an turtle symbol and a deer hide fringe.

#A39 Bag Axe. Nice reproduction of a 18th. century bag axe, hand-forged by traditional methods. French Biscayne style head is 5 1/4" high with a 2 3/4" cutting edge. Hand turned 12" haft in ash decorated with line carving. Filework on front and side of the blade. Leather sheath. During the colonial period there were many hand-forged small axes of this type. They were referred to as "bag axes or bag hawks". Frequently they were carried in a shooting pouch with the rest of the gear.

#T56 Primitive Spike Warhawk. 8 1/2" head with a 2 5/8" cutting edge. 19" long oak haft decorated with line carvings.

#A31 Belt Axe. Head is 5 1/2" high with a 2 1/2" cutting edge. Hickory haft 14" long.

#T55 Spike tomahawk. Hand forged from a 24oz. ball peen hammer head. Blade is a bell or crescent shape. 8 3/4" head with a 3" cutting edge. 19" black walnut haft.

#T48 Hammer poll tomahawk. 7 1/2" head with a 2 5/8" cutting edge. 18" hard maple haft.

Belt hawk. 6" head. Hand turned haft.

#T64 Belt Hawk. Hand-forged by traditional 18th. century methods. Head is 5 1/2" overall with a 3 1/8" cutting edge. Hand turned white oak haft is 18" long and is decorated with line carvings. File work on the front of the blade. Leather sheath decorated with a turtle symbol.

Colonial belt axe. 5 5/8" head with a 2 7/8" cutting edge. Ash haft 16" long.

#A28 Kentucky Belt Axe. Head is 5 3/8" high with a 3" cutting edge. 16" long hickory haft. Leather sheath.

#A27 Poll Axe. Head is 6 1/2" overall with a 2 5/8" cutting edge. White oak haft. File work on the front of the blade. Leather blade guard/sheath decorated with an antler piece, trade beads and a deer hide fringe.

#T72 Spike tomahawk. Hand-forged from an antique 21oz ball peen hammer head. Head is 7 7/8" overall with a 2 3/8" cutting edge. Hickory haft is 18" long. File work on the front and side of the blade.

#T42 Magua spike tomahawk. (Last of the Mohicans) 7 3/4" head. 24" maple haft.

#T100 - Hammer Poll Tomahawk. Hand-forged by traditional 18th. century methods. Head is 7 5/8" overall with a 2 3/4" cutting edge. Ash haft is 18 1/2" long and decorated with a leather wrap and brass tacks. File work on the front and sides of the blade.

#T50 Hammer Poll Tomahawk. Hand-Forged. Head 7 1/2" overall. 2 5/8" wide cutting edge. Hand turned ash haft 19" long. Filework on blade. Frontier style leather sheath with a deer hide fringe, trade beads, deer leg bone ring and copper cones. A very nice reproduction hawk that is a reminder of an era past.



#T58 Belt Hawk. Hand-forged by traditional 18th. century methods. Head is 5 1/2" overall with a 2 5/8" cutting edge. Hand turned oak haft is 15" long and is decorated with line carvings. File work on the front of the blade. Leather sheath decorated with an antler piece, trade beads, brass cones and a deer hide fringe.

#T131 - Spike Tomahawk. Hand-forged by traditional 18th. century methods. Head is 8 7/8" overall with a 2 3/4" cutting edge. The 18" long ash haft is decorated with tribal markings and brass tacks. File work on the front and sides of the blade. Leather sheath.

#A26 Bag Axe. Nice reproduction of a 18th. century bag axe, hand-forged with traditional methods. Head is 5 1/4" high with a 2 5/8" cutting edge. Hand turned 12 1/4" haft in ash decorated with line carving. Filework on front of blade.

#T74 Spike tomahawk. Hand-forged from a 24oz ball peen hammer head. Head is 8 3/8" overall with a 2 1/2" cutting edge. White oak haft is 18 3/4" long. File work on the front of the blade.

#A33 Belt Axe. Hand forged. Head is 5 7/8" high with a 2 7/8" cutting edge. Hickory haft 14" long. Comes with a leather sheath.

#T54 Hammer Poll Tomahawk Beautiful reproduction of an officer's or gentleman's hammer poll hawk. 8" high head with a 2 5/8" wide cutting edge. Aged ash haft 18" long with a rawhide wrap and iron tacks.

#T63 Spike Warhawk. Hand Forged using traditional 18th. century methods. Head 8 3/4" overall. 2 7/8" wide cutting edge. Ash haft 18" long. A very nice reproduction hawk that is a reminder of an era past.

#T68 Hammer Poll Tomahawk. Hand-Forged from 1018 and 1095 steel. Head 7 1/8" overall. 18" hickory haft, decorated with a partial rawhide wrap and iron tacks. File work.

#T-E27 Spike War Tomahawk. Hand-forged by traditional 18th century methods. This large hawk has a 8" high head overall. Filework on front of blade and spike. Beautiful oak hand turned haft 19 1/4" long. A very nice reproduction hawk that is a reminder of an era past.

#T70 Arrow Head Spike Tomahawk. Hand forged from a 24oz. ball peen hammer. Head is 7 3/4" high with a 2 1/2" wide cutting edge. Decorated with filework and it comes with a leather blade guard/sheath. Hickory haft is 18" long decorated with a rawhide wrap and iron tacks.

#A38 Bag Axe. Hand-forged by traditional 18th. century methods. Head is 4 7/8" overall with a 2 3/8" cutting edge. Turned maple haft, 12" long. File work on the front of the blade.

#A40 Bag Axe. Hand-forged by traditional 18th. century methods. Head is 4 1/2" overall with a 2 1/2" cutting edge. Hickory haft, 12" long. File work on the front and side of the blade.

Spike War Hawk forged from a 16oz. ball peen hammer. Curly maple haft.

Pipe Hawk forged from a 32oz. ball peen hammer. Head is 7 1/2" overall with a 2 1/2" wide cutting edge. White oak haft.

Primitive Warhawk with spike in the shape of a bear claw. Head is 8 3/4" high overall with a 2 1/2" wide cutting edge. Curly maple haft.

#T45 Hammer Poll Tomahawk. 7 1/2" head. 17" long hand turned haft in oak, decorated with line carvings and brass tacks.

Belt Axe. 5 1/4" head with a 2 1/4" cutting edge. 15" long turned haft.

Colonial Axe. 1060 high carbon steel. 16" long haft. Head is 5 3/8" high with a 2 3/8" wide cutting edge.
